How Fats/Lipids Are Good For Our Health ?

Many of us believe that fat is not a good thing to eat, and the less we eat, the better for us. However, we must realize that fats perform many important functions in our body and that all kinds of fats are not bad. It is the kind and total quantity of fat we eat which we have to monitor.

Lipids or fats are present in nearly all the food that we eat. They add a special flavor to food, which is why deep-fried snacks are relished by most of us. Fats increase the energy density of foods so that even small portion sizes give us a feeling of satiety. Inside the body they have several functions to perform - they have a component of all cell membrane, helps in the synthesis of hormones and other useful substances. Yet consuming fats in more than recommended amounts can have negative consequences on our Health.

 Lets us learns SOME MORE HEALTH BENEFITS OF FATS/LIPIDS -

1. The primary function of the fat is to provide energy. One gram of fat gives us 9 kcal. It is a concentrated source of energy since carbohydrates and proteins just give us 4 kcal. This helps in reducing bulk to our diet, especially for children, who cannot eat a large quantity of food to meet their energy requirements. 
  
2. The adipose tissue layer present under our skin provides INSULATION to the body, decreasing the body heat in the cold weather. This is the poor conductor of heat. this means the obese individuals would not feel so cold in winters; however, in summers, they would experience greater discomfort, as they would not be able to lose heat easily. 
3. It is the BODY'S CHEIF RESERVE OF ENERGY. fat is stored in the adipose tissue in our body, to be used when the need arises. Excess glucose or amino acids in the body are converted to fats are stored. Did you know that the human body can survive 30-40 days of starvation if it is sufficient stores of fat? Although it is important to have somebody's fat reserves, very small or large stores can pore numerous health benefits. 

4. Fat also acts as a LUBRICANTS for the Gastrointestinal tract, allowing the passage of food.

5. Fat tends to decrease gastric motility, and the food remains in the stomach for a longer time. This delays the Onset of hunger sensation and provides SATIETY.

6. The PALATIBLITY or taste of the food improves with the addition of fat.
